Hand in Cap
“Will I ever walk again… Could I run, jump, dance? No, just walk…”
The body’s constraint becomes a language
In a tight playing space, Jimmy Omoï develops a captivating, dexterous movement vocabulary made of waves and pulses. He tells of the body’s constraints through dance, narrates his immobility through movement, and evokes his differences and particularities.
Through a play of double perspectives, he stages his own story and reveals, with restraint, how an immobilised body that only longs to express itself confronts the world. He hands the floor to the audience and opens a dialogue about how we relate to others, especially to those who do not fit the norm.
“Jimmy’s physical radicality is striking proof that this is in no way a demonstration, but a genuine proposal of choreographic creation.”Philippe Guisgand, dance researcher, University of Lille
