Gueules noires
A piece paying tribute to the lives of miners, to the generations of immigrant men who shaped our regions. Neither victims nor heroes.
Working-class memory through the body
In Gueules Noires, Rachid Hedli pays tribute to the miners of northern France, and in particular to his father. With restraint, he reinterprets this atmosphere in a singular staging, set to an original score by Romuald Houziaux: a fine balance between the roar of machines, sonic dizziness and lightness.
Beyond the personal testimony, the company passes on the stories of miners from successive waves of immigration, heirs to a history that has shaped the diversity of our heritage.
Scene by scene, the show retraces the lives of these men: uprooting, work, revolt, illness, but also mutual aid and solidarity.
