Danse & Toile
An encounter between hip-hop dance and the notes of pianist Tarik Salhi, where bodies compose a moving canvas in space.
Hip-hop in dialogue with the piano
After Gueules Noires, Résurgences and Hand in Cap, Compagnie Niya opens a new chapter and declares its love for live music.
On stage, the dancers move between the raw power of hip-hop and the finesse of contemporary writing, carried by Tarik Salhi’s piano. Raised in working-class neighbourhoods, he combines classical mastery of the instrument with a sensibility deeply rooted in hip-hop.
Conceived as a succession of living tableaux, the show plays with themes dear to the company: otherness and the power of the collective. Every gesture becomes a trace, every movement a line: together, dance and music paint a living canvas.
“As a choreographer, above all I seek to build bridges. Bridges between disciplines, between sensibilities, between audiences.”Rachid Hedli, choreographer
